The American musical duo became one of the biggest acts of the early 2010s thanks to their eccentric outfits, outrageous music videos and unforgettable party anthems.
But after suddenly stepping away from the spotlight, fans have been left wondering what happened to the pair. LMFAO, an initialism for “Laughing My Freaking A** Off”, consisted of uncle and nephew duo Redfoo, whose real name is Stefan Kendal Gordy, and Sky Blu, real name is Skyler Austen Gordy. The pair shot to global fame with their 2011 hit Party Rock Anthem, which topped the charts in the UK, US, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and Switzerland.
Their success was huge, with the duo selling millions of records worldwide.
But just a year after reaching the height of their fame, LMFAO announced they would be taking an indefinite hiatus in September 2012.
Now, more than a decade later, one fan took to Reddit to ask: “What ever happened to LMFAO? I grew up with these guys music in my teenage years.” But there could be hope for fans wanting to hear from the duo again.
Redfoo recently suggested he feels inspired to bring LMFAO back for another album during an interview with The Smallzy’s Show earlier this month.
Before the interview, the star had dug into his “vault” to find some of his iconic 2010s outfits, prompting questions about a possible comeback.
He replied: “I feel like I should just, might as well make another record. Why don’t I make another album? Why don’t you? I have all this wardrobe. Yeah. It needs to be, you know, used.”

Why did LMFAO split?
The duo had actually been making music together since 2006, meaning they already spent around six years working together by the time they became household names.
Redfoo previously explained they had reached a point where they wanted to explore different paths rather than continue forcing the partnership.
He said: “We’re kind of like saying, well, let’s just do what’s natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time.
“All the music that I’m going to make is always going to be LMFAO-ish. I love all the topics that we talk about.
“I was really passionate about bringing party music to the world, so I will always be making some kind of party music.”
Redfoo
Redfoo swapped the stage for the tennis court after LMFAO, attempting to qualify for the 2013 US Open as a wild card.
He went on to compete in various tournaments and later became involved in beach tennis, including competing on the International Tennis Federation’s world tour.
The star also appeared on The X Factor Australia in 2014 and Dancing with the Stars in 2015. He later developed an interest in coding and hosted a three-day hackathon at his home in 2022.
In 2023, Redfoo returned with Long Live Party Rock, a collaboration with Dainjazone. The track was released on his official YouTube channel in April that year.
Sky Blu
Sky Blu also pursued a solo career after LMFAO went on hiatus, releasing his first singles in 2013.
The following year, he introduced fans to his alter ego, The Party President, while also adopting the stylised name 8ky 6lu.
Unlike his uncle, Sky Blu has continued to release music in recent years.
Earlier this month, he released a new song, Open Up The Pit, which he has been promoting on Instagram.
While the pair have spent years pursuing their own projects, Redfoo’s recent comments have once again raised the possibility of LMFAO returning.
One fan said on Instagram: “Welcome back king.” Another added: “I hope this is true!” A third said: “It’s sounding SO GOOD!”
