X Factor star, Wagner, was a real fan favourite on the ITV reality show 16 years ago. The retired P.E teacher from Brazil shot to fame when he became the series’ oldest finalist, aged 53, during the show’s seventh instalment.
Joined by the likes of Cher Lloyd, Rebecca Ferguson and future superstars, One Direction, Wagner – with his trademark moustache and long locks – was fantastic live TV fodder. He made it all the way to the quarter finals and kept us entertained every Saturday with his unfiltered comments and genuine joy of being on the show.
Three years ago, the star moved from Birmingham back to his home country Brazil, where he set up a hair transplant business in a story almost too good to be true.
Speaking about the move, the long-haired crooner told the Mirror: “I love it here but I am going to Brazil to start a hair transplant business.
“I’m living proof that hair transplants work. I had mine eight years ago and I haven’t lost anything. I lose more from the beard than my head.
“I’m going to be making so much money I’ll be coming back to the UK. I’m only a flight away. Once the clinic is up and running I can employ a manager who speaks English.”
Speaking about his wife, who is 36 years his junior, Wagner added: “Once I die, [his wife] Lydia will communicate with the manager and I can die in peace now.”
Now, aged 69, the star is very much alive and looks fighting fit in a new video. In a clip shared on Fubar Radio, Wagner is still rocking his long locks – and trademark moustache – although it’s now silver, not black.
He is also sporting an enormous grey beard as he talks about his life now, rocking a gold chain and a striking yellow vest, showcasing his collection of tattoos – and bulging biceps.
Revealing he has now moved back to the UK after selling his hair transplant business, he told host Andrew White he had come back to Blighty in December after admitting he “couldn’t stand” living in Brazil.
Talking about his success on the X Factor and why it could “never happen again” he added: “There were only five channels, everybody was gathering around the TV. There was no Facebook, no social media invasion… and that’s why it could never happen again.”.
