Gary L. Wilson is a senior business executive and investor who has worked with major companies, airlines, hotels, and investment funds. He has helped to organize and finance large corporate transactions, including Northwest Airlines’ acquisition and the acquisition of Progress Rail. He also helped to establish and manage investment funds, including Manhattan Pacific Partners and Thayer Lodging.
Gary is a partner in Clarity China, an investment firm that invests in Chinese companies. He is associated with MPP Consulting, which provided research consulting to the Washington Companies before they acquired Dominion Diamond Corp. Previously, Gary served as co-chairman of Northwest Airlines from 1991 to 1997 and as chairman from 1997 to 2007.
In 1985, Gary joined The Walt Disney Company and served as executive vice president, chief financial officer, and director until 1990. He continued as a director until 2006. Barbera Thornhill and Gary L. Wilson tied the knot on October 30, 1992. During their marriage, the former couple welcomed a son named Hale Thornhill-Wilson. In 2008, Barbera and Gary decided to call it quits. On June 25, 2008, Gary filed for a legal separation. Later, on November 19, 2008, Barbera responded by asking the court for a divorce, officially ending their 16 years of marriage.
Next year, on July 31, 2009, Barbera asked the court to examine an important issue separately and earlier than the other divorce-related matters. She requested the court to examine whether their September 1999 property agreement was legally valid. Under that alleged agreement, several properties that the former chairman of Northwest Airlines owned separately were supposedly changed into community property.
However, Wilson objected to Barbera’s request, but the judge allowed the separate trial. It took place between July 2010 and December 2010. On December 29, 2010, the trial court issued a detailed decision explaining why Barbera had failed to prove her case on the key issues. One of the main factors was whether Gary signed the 1999 property agreement willingly.
According to court docs, Gary had signed the agreement voluntarily after carefully considering its pros and cons. He hoped that the arrangement might improve his relationship with Barbera and create a more peaceful home for their son. While the reason behind their split remained unknown, Barbera listed her marital status as divorced in a 2020 Senate disclosure.
