Who Is Gabe Brown? Matt Brown Was In Contact With Him Amid Family Feud Before His Alleged Death

Former Alaskan Bush People star, Matt Brown is currently suspected to be dead. Following his sudden disappearance, his brother, Bear Brown, shared in a TikTok video that he and the Brown family fear that Matt might have killed himself on the night of May 28, 2026. The suspicion emerged after police found an unidentified male floating face down in Washington’s Okanogan River a day before. Additionally, a relative confirmed spotting Matt near the site of the mishap hours before the body was found. Amid the buzz about exactly what might have happened to Matt, new details about his family, particularly regarding Gabe Brown, surfaced.

Who is Gabe Brown? Why is he in focus?

Gabriel ‘Gabe’ Brown is a reality television personality, known as one of the stars of the Discovery Channel docudrama, Alaskan Bush People. He featured in the series alongwith the Brown family, and showcases their lifestyle as they survive in remote locations. He is the fourth-born sibling and is currently in focus due to his brother, Matt Brown, allegedly having killed himself due to mental health deterioration. Notably, Matt was estranged from his family and was only in touch with Gabe, as per TMZ. Although the two brothers interacted, the exchanges were very limited. Regarding that, TMZ mentioned:

“Gabe Brown is the only family member who communicates with Matt, we’re told, and our sources made it clear their chats are few and far between.”

Matt Brown allegedly tried to reconcile with his family before his death

Matt Brown allegedly had a major fight with his family in 2021 over not receiving his share of funds raised from Alaskan Bush People. He alleged that his late father, Billy, kept all the earnings from the Discovery reality documentary, and that his siblings were unwilling to share the profits with him. In the video, he also mentioned being in touch with one of his brothers (probably Gabe Brown), who acted as a mediator between him and his family. Matt trusted him to persuade the family to give him his due.

Matt shared that he wanted to talk things out with his family, not only about his payment but also to reunite with them. After undergoing rehab and overcoming his alcoholism to a great extent, he felt that he was ready to be back with his parents and siblings. Notably, the reality TV star completed six months of combined inpatient and outpatient rehab in January 2019, and has spoken openly of his newfound sobriety on Instagram. He didn’t want to be “the guy that’s off the rails any more.” His exact words were:

“I was being really cool. I deducted everything I had spent, my previous rehabs stuff like that, I was being really understanding. Trying not only just to get what’s mine but to reunite with the family [by] letting them know I’m not the guy that’s off the rails any more, and how hard I’ve worked on myself and getting over the issues from my childhood and from the time filming the show.”

Matt Brown’s family allegedly did not reciprocate his attempt at reconciliation

Matt felt betrayed when the one sibling he trusted with the mediation did not help him; instead, he said careless words that “triggered” him. Matt said that he tried his best to keep his calm as he had seen his dad’s alcoholic episodes and knew what not to do. He ended up raising his voice a bit, but didn’t scream. However, he realised that even after all his efforts, his family never treated him right. Matt Brown even alleged that his family spread lies about his addiction. He stated:

“I found out yesterday, it’s like he was trying to set me off again…I was very triggered. I didn’t scream at him, I did at a couple of times get frustrated and raise my voice…They always say stuff that isn’t true about me and my addiction and I realise they are never going to do the right thing and I was never treated right.”
