Geri Horner may have been one of the most boldly dressed stars of the Nineties and Noughties, but nowadays, it’s hard to find the former Spice Girl wearing anything but white – and there’s a reason
Gone are the days of her Union Jack dress and striking red hair; now, Geri Horner’s wardrobe is very different. The Spice Girls legend may be one quarter of the chart-topping girl group, but these days, it’s safe to say Horner is known for her wardrobe choices.
Today, the singer, who is celebrating her 54th birthday, prefers a much simpler wardrobe and very rarely ventures out of her comfort zone – which is strictly all-white.
Geri’s decision to consistently wear all white every single day have left many left baffled by her choices.
Anticipating her strict wardrobe choices, bandmate, Melanie C even had words with her before her wedding. However, Mel’s words fell on deaf ears as Geri still broke protocol and wore white, albeit with a floral pattern.
Geri has explained why she turned her back on her wild ways in favour of a more sophisticated image, and how she took unexpected inspiration from Apple boss Steve Jobs.
Speaking to fellow singer Jessie Ware and her mum, Lennie, on the Table Manners podcast, she explained she sees white as her “uniform” and that it saves her a considerable amount of time when it came to getting ready each day.
“I went through a period when I was in my 20s, wearing black all the time,” she said: “But I’ve gone through different theories. I looked at a lot of guys, and they always wear the same thing.
“Whether it’s Steve Jobs, Facebook guy, you know, they all wear the same thing, like a uniform. I thought, ‘Well, actually, how much time do you use getting ready?’ That was one thing, and everything matches. It keeps things simple.”
During an interview with OK! Magazine in 2023, Geri said that wearing white was a genius idea as the colour “matches everything”. She said: “[It makes life] simple. I like the colour and it’s like wearing a school uniform as an adult.
“It matches everything and I don’t have to think in the mornings. It’s great for busy people – it looks like you’ve made an effort when you haven’t.”
She also told The Sunday Times : “There’s a power in covering up, I didn’t realise that, I don’t need to overshare.” The same interview, which included photographs, reported that Geri “refused” to wear anything other than white or cream.
Geri’s decision sparked controversy however during Mel C’s recent wedding to husband Chris Dingwall. Ginger Spice was one of those invited to celebrate the couple with their closest friends and family for their UK ceremony in the Lake District.
In images shared from the wedding, Geri was seen posing alongside Melanie, Emma Bunton and Melanie Brown MBE. While Melanie B opted for a cream long-sleeved dress, Emma rocked a white and pink suit – but Geri wore a floor-length white dress.
Speaking to Australian radio station Kiis1065, Chisholm said: “I did have a little chat with Geri because it is her favourite colour. She wears it every day. But she had a beautiful floral dress on, and it was white white… I did have a little giggle with her about that.”
Victoria Beckham wasn’t in attendance as she was in New York with husband David for the World Cup due to David’s role as an ambassador for FIFA, although she did design Chisholm’s dress.
