It was on the morning of Juy 31, 2022 that the people at Strongsville, Ohio, received horrendous news. There was a car travelling at 100 miles per hour that crashed into the side of a brick building. Due to the same, two young passengers inside the same died. The driver was a 17-year-old, Mackenzie Shirilla, who had taken her boyfriend, Dom, and their friend, Davion Flanagan, when she crashed her car into a brick wall. She had intentionally done the same, and after a bench trial, was convicted of multiple charges.

The report further claimed that NBC legal analyst, Misty Marris, revealed that The Crash, in a way, can impact the future proceedings related to Mackenzie Shirilla’s case. Well, at one end, the documentary is giving Shirilla the opportunity to showcase herself to the public in a way that court proceedings do not showcase. On the other side, the report mentioned that the legal analyst noted that a lot of publicity related to the case can bring back renewed scrutiny that had led to the conviction.

A report by the PEOPLE magazine has claimed that Mackenzie Shirilla has earlier tried to appeal the ruling back three times. Two times it was in the Cuyahoga County Court, and one time it was in the Eighth District Court of Appeals. However, the report claimed that all three attempts were denied. Parade had then reached out to a famous University of Nebraska law professor called, Josephine Jo R. Pouto, related to the insight. The professor revealed that the court may not approve more additional appeals even though Mackenzie Shirilla can try. Pouto revealed that she is done. The Crash, which was released on Netflix, has showcased the complicated case to millions. The professor commenting on how The Crash could affect Mackenzie Shirilla’s parole noted:

“The Ohio Supreme Court is very unlikely to hear her case, despite her recent appeal. She could go into federal court if she has a constitutional claim, such as ineffective assistance of counsel — as her legal team missed the filing date on post- conviction and who knows what else.”

The Crash producer feels that showcasing viewpoints in the Mackenzie Shirilla case was important

The Crash documentary has already left netizens divided. At one end, fans believed that The Crash showcased the humane side of Mackenzie, regardless of whether her actions were intentional. Some have felt that the documentary is leaving behind important discussions related to the trial. The movie has been directed by Gareth Johnson, while Angharad Scott has produced the same. The producer speaking on the documentary had shared:

“Whilst elements of this story had been told before in various bits of media, quite a lot of these people’s voices hadn’t been heard, and they felt like they still needed to say something. It was our job, in making this film, to present everybody’s viewpoint as fairly and accurately as we could. We’ve given the audience everything they need to come to their own conclusions about what happened.”
