NELLORE: A retired government employee was taken into custody after two minor girls from a BC Welfare hostel in Jarugumalli mandal were allegedly subjected to inappropriate behaviour at his residence in Ongole, prompting a police investigation following the orders by the BC welfare minister.
According to police and officials, the girls were allegedly taken out of the hostel by cook Sarada on Tuesday on the pretext of helping them obtain their fathers’ death certificates. They were subsequently taken to the residence of retired District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) employee B. Venkata Rao in Ongole, where they were allegedly kept inside the house and subjected to inappropriate behaviour.
One of the girls managed to contact her relatives, who reached the house and rescued the other girl. Acting on information from locals, police arrived at the spot, gathered details and took Venkata Rao into custody for questioning. A case was registered and further investigation is underway.
BC welfare minister S. Savitha ordered stringent action against those responsible. She directed the Prakasam district collector and BC welfare officials to take immediate action against the accused.
The minister ordered that cook Sarada be removed from duty and face legal action. She also directed BC welfare department secretary Satyanarayana to suspend the hostel warden and submit an immediate report.
Savitha instructed officials to ensure wardens remain present in hostels at night and directed DBCWDOs and ABCWOs to conduct regular inspections, including at night.
