Wladimir Klitschko has filed a legal move to protect his and Hayden Panettiere’s daughter’s inheritance following concerns about the late actress’s property
Hayden Panettiere’s ex-fiancée, Wladimir Klitschko, has filed an “urgent” motion to protect their daughter’s inheritance. It follows concerns surrounding the late actress’s property.
Hayden tragically died aged just 36 in August at a residence in South Carolina due to “toxic effects” of several drugs, which included fentanyl. Her death was later ruled to be accidental. She is survived by her daughter, Kaya, 11, whom she had during her nine-year relationship with Klitschko.
In 2018, when Kaya was just three, the late actress signed full custody to her ex-partner due to her battle with postpartum depression, as well as addiction. Klitschko and Kaya moved to Ukraine, where he is from.
Last week, Klitschko filed a petition in Los Angeles to become the temporary guardian of Kaya’s estate. Following Hayden’s death, Kaya inherited a reported $6 million estate, and Wladimir is now ensuring that all of Hayden’s possessions are returned following the investigation into her death.
The “declaration of urgency” was filed on September 24. The filing reads: “Kaya is a U.S. citizen, residing abroad with her father, Wladimir. Hayden, a U.S. citizen and resident of California, died intestate on August 16, 2026.
“Although Kaya is not a resident of California, this Court has jurisdiction over the guardianship of Kaya’s estate because, as such heir, Kaya is entitled to the entirety of the assets subject to Hayden’s probate administration in California.”
The documents go on to state that the motion was filed to ensure that Wladimir “may receive, manage and hold, on Kaya’s behalf, the assets to which Kaya is entitled from Hayden’s probate estate.”
He added that there is no personal rep to safeguard the interests of Hayden’s estate. The petition claims that before Hayden died, additional security measures were put into place at her home after an unknown individual had “gained unauthorised access” to her property.
The documents, according to the Daily Mail, state that locks were changed and that storage units containing designer clothing and accessories worn at public events were moved as a “precaution”.
The files go on to add: “Notwithstanding the foregoing, it is expected that the individual will continue to try and misappropriate property belonging to Hayden’s Estate.” They go on to add that Wladimir has “been informed that certain items of personal property belonging to Hayden, including jewellery, have disappeared or remain unaccounted for.
“Some items are currently in the custody of law enforcement in connection with the ongoing investigation. It is essential that an Administrator of Hayden’s Estate be appointed to marshal the missing assets and interface with law enforcement.”
The documents add: “It is urgent and essential that Wladimir be immediately appointed Temporary Guardian of Kaya’s Estate, to afford Wladimir the necessary standing to file Hayden’s Probate Petition, and the power to nominate a proposed Administrator of Hayden’s Estate.
“Without an immediate appointment for these purposes, there is a high probability that property belonging to Hayden’s Estate may be lost, damaged or dissipated before a duly appointed personal representative can be in place to protect it.”
According to the filing, Wladimir claims that federal agents had accessed Hayden’s home as part of an ongoing investigation and allegedly removed her property. The documents list Wladimir as the father and petitioner, citing Hayden Lesley Panettiere as Kaya’s mother.
While the motion was filed on September 24, publicly listed documents state that the Appointment Hearing for guardianship will take place on December 7, this year. Reports from Greenville County Medical Examiner showed that Brian Hickerson, Hayden’s on-off boyfriend and his brother, Zack, discovered her unconscious on the sofa of the property, turning a deep shade of purple.
According to the report, the brothers tried to wake Panettiere up and administered two doses of Narcan, but failed and called the emergency services. Panettiere was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Greenville County Coroner’s Office previously confirmed that Panettiere’s death was accidental. They ruled the cause of death as an accidental overdose involving fentanyl as well as anti-anxiety medication, Alprazolam. The other drugs in her system included a muscle relaxer and an antipsychotic medication used to treat major depression.
