Tirupati: A young woman who had come to Tirumala for darshan of Lord Venkateswara went missing on Monday. As per reports, Uppu Lakshmi Tirupatamma, a native of Sangadigunta in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, had come to Tirumala with her family. On Monday night after darshan, they returned to their room. Around 3:00 AM, Tirupatamma reportedly stepped out and did not return. Her family searched the vicinity, and when they were unable to trace her, the family members filed a police complaint.
Preliminary inquiry suggests she may have left on her own as she was unhappy over an arranged marriage proposed by her elders. Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage from the area. She was last seen wearing a maroon and brown coloured churidar. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has installed an AI-based facial recognition technology, primarily for better management of the pilgrims and access control. This system can give the location of a person if he or she is spotted by any of the cameras installed across the city.
Meanwhile, police have intensified searches at highways, railway stations and at the temple town’s city entry points. Officials appealed to the public to share information on Tirupatamma and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
