Tadepalligudem SI, Constable in ACB Net

Kakinada:Eluru district ACB sleuths caught Tadepalligudem sub-inspector Peruri Nagaraju and the station constable Vempalli Balachara Rao red-handed while accepting a bribe of `70,000.

According to ACB officials, the complainant Neelapu Kumari has two sons. Her elder son resides in Dubai, while her younger son Abhilash (21) works as an AC mechanic and resides in Tadepalligudem. Abhilash was in love with a 19-year-old girl of Tadepalligudem, and both of them eloped from the town on April 24 with the intention of getting married. The girl’s parents lodged a missing complaint of their daughter at Tadepalligudem police station, and subsequently the police traced her in Eluru and handed her over to her parents.

Three days later, SI Nagaraju summoned the complainant and her son to the police station and threatened them by stating that despite the girl having returned, he could still foist a false rape case against Abhilash. In order to prevent such action and ensure that no case was registered against her son, the SI demanded a bribe of `2 lakh, claiming that the amount was being demanded on behalf of the girl’s family. The complainant informed the police that her family was poor and unable to afford such a huge amount. SI Nagaraju continued harassment by summoning Abhilash to the police station on a daily basis.

At last, the SI Nagaraju bargained and reduced the amount to `70,000. On Thursday the complainant approached the SI; he suggested to hand over the amount to the constable. When the constable was taking the bribe amount, the ACB officials caught the constable and arrested both the SI and the constable. They said that they would be produced before the ACB court.
