Hyderabad: Working from a park instead of an office or café could soon become an option for Cyberabad residents, with the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) planning Wi-Fi-enabled workspaces in 30 to 40 public parks under its proposed ‘Work from Park’ initiative.

The corporation plans to begin with two pilot projects, with a park at Madhava Hills Colony near Madhava Welfare School in Masjid Banda, Serilingampally, among the locations identified.

Sites in Kukatpally and Madhapur are also under consideration.

The pilot facilities are expected to be ready around New Year, with further expansion depending on public response.

The proposed workspaces will have free Wi-Fi, laptop charging points, tiered seating, benches, CCTV cameras, walking tracks and kiosks serving coffee and snacks.

The corporation is also considering a nominal user fee of ₹50 to ₹100.

“We want to make public parks more than just recreational spaces.

The Work from Park concept will allow people to work in a green and peaceful environment while making better use of these spaces,” CMC commissioner Srijana said.

As part of a broader initiative to expand green spaces, the corporation is developing around 300 parks on vacant civic lands, selected from nearly 700 corporation-owned properties.

Another 90 existing parks will be renovated and upgraded.

The new parks are expected to open to the public by February.

The commissioner said CMC was also planning a two- to three-day programme, ‘Listening to Children’, around November 20 in collaboration with UNICEF to understand children’s concerns about street lighting, neighbourhood safety and civic amenities.

“Children should have a voice in shaping their neighbourhoods.

We want to listen to their concerns and suggestions and translate them into actual development works,” she said.

The suggestions will be documented, and a dedicated cell is proposed to ensure follow-up action.

To improve transparency, the corporation will install completion boards at civic project sites displaying expenditure, completion dates, contractors’ details and contact numbers of supervising engineers.

The boards will also specify the two-year defect liability period during which contractors are responsible for maintenance.

“We want people to know how much is being spent on every civic work, who is executing it and who is responsible for its maintenance,” Srijana said.

CMC is also planning a one-kilometre pilot project using recycled plastic to manufacture roadside posts, footpath tiles, streetlight poles, benches and dustbins.

The corporation is exploring green-waste processing facilities in every ward, with 200 to 300 square yards proposed for each unit.

TGSPDCL is expected to provide chipping machines and sheds under its corporate social responsibility initiative.

The processed green waste could be used to produce biochar or briquettes, reducing the volume of waste transported to the Jawaharnagar dumping yard.
