Yankees prospect Dax Kilby overhauled swing in one week — and it changed everything

Swing changes take time. A hitter intent on overhauling his stance or bat path or approach often will use the entire offseason to figure out what works, then will use an entire spring training to become comfortable with the adjustment, then will debut the revamped swing for the regular season — maybe six months after the tinkering began.

All of which underscores the ease and poise with which Dax Kilby rebuilt his swing in about a week and then used it immediately to demolish pitching in the Arizona Fall League.

“The fact that it’s been this good, this fast?” Yankees director of hitting Jarret DeHart said of Kilby, who rode the new-look swing to become an AFL All-Star. “Yeah, I was surprised.”

After an injury-filled 2026 season, the Yankees’ top prospect — a first-round pick (39th overall) out of a Georgia high school in 2025 — reported to the club’s facilities in Tampa in late September with player development folks including DeHart. Though he played just 32 games with Low-A Tampa last season because of hamstring issues, Kilby hit well (.883 OPS), buoyed by excellent contact skills and plate discipline (39 walks, 31 strikeouts).
