Sep. 21—Wisconsin-Superior men’s golf improved its team total by six shots on day two and with it won its home tournament, the Twin Ports Collegiate, concluding on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Nemadji Golf Course in Superior.
Hibbing native Andrew Slatten led the way, as a birdie on the 18th on the West Course capped a 1-over 73 and individual medalist honors with a 1-under 143 in the two-day tourney after a 2-under 70 that included four birdies in Friday’s first round.

Slatten was individual medalist by two shots, while the Yellowjackets finished four shots better than Bethany Lutheran in a field of 17 teams from 14 schools.
The UWS women finished third among 14 teams behind Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Northwestern, with Duluth East alum Abby Schintz finishing second overall after a 2-under 69 with six birdies broke her own program record for lowest single round.
The Saturday round, over the North/South layout, included birdies at 2, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 18, leaving her one shot behind medalist Tally Schlindwein of UW-Eau Claire.
UWS’s second-day team total of 312 was another program single-day record.

UWS took three wins from its first four home matches of the season in the Stinger Classic Friday and Saturday at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
The Yellowjackets claimed back to back five-set wins over St. Scholastica (18-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 15-12) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 15-10) on Friday, then got swept by Wisconsin-River Falls (25-17, 25-19, 25-23) before recovering for a 3-1 (27-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22) victory over Augsburg.
Savanna Hering’s 40 digs were a career high on Friday vs. CSS, while Sydney Smith led the front row with 12 kills and four digs, both team-leading totals.
The Saints scored the first four points of the fifth set, but UWS scored the next six and never trailed the rest of the way.

Hering had 35 more digs against La Crosse, while Makenna Hohbein piled up 18 kills.
River Falls held UWS to an .029 hitting percentage in the sweep, though Grand Rapids native Kate Jamtgaard finished with seven kills. Against Augsburg, Taylor Tollefson stepped up with a match-best 16 kills, while Hohbein had an excellent all-around game with 11 kills and 21 digs.
UWS (8-2) will begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Friday at home vs. Northwestern.
A return to conference play also led to a return to the win column, twice, for UWS.
The Yellowjackets won 4-0 at North Central in Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 16 and took down Crown 3-0 on Saturday, Sept. 19 in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota.

In between, UWS lost 1-0 in a nonconference home match against Wisconsin-River Falls.
On Saturday, the Saints netted all three of their goals in a 17-minute stretch of the second half, from Claire Loria, Julia Lindow and Julia Taylor, while the defense held the Polars to two shot attempts, only one on target.
Four different players scored for the ‘Jackets at North Central, with Abigail Naud (Esko) notching a goal and assist, while the defense didn’t allow the hosts to have a shot attempt at all.
UWS had 13 shot attempts on Thursday vs. UWRF, four on frame, but the game’s only goal was scored by the visitors’ Abby Drontle in the 55th minute. Cayley Larson (Duluth Denfeld) made five saves.

The Yellowjackets (2-3-1, 2-0 UMAC) were scheduled to host Northwestern on Tuesday in Superior.
A pair of 3-1 road wins for Wisconsin-Superior kicked off the UMAC portion of their 2026 schedule.
Wednesday, Sept. 16, the Yellowjackets downed North Central in Minneapolis behind a pair of goals from Seth Davidson and one from Lundin Flohaug (Duluth East). Goalie Henry Ruhland made four saves.
Saturday in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota, UWS had to overcome an early goal in what proved to be the Polars’ only shot on target, from Josiah Hoffman in the 10th minute.
Rowan Wagner tied it up before halftime, while Valentin Soares gave the visitors the lead in the 72nd minute before Jay’ce Jones made it 3-1 late.
UWS (3-2-1, 2-0 UMAC) was set to host Northwestern on Tuesday night.
