New Delhi: Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli on Tuesday congratulated Harry Kane for winning the Ballon d’Or, describing the English footballer as a resilient and hard-working player who deserves “every bit” of the prestigious award.Kohli and Kane endorse the same sports apparel brand.
“Harry my friend, you deserve every bit of this award for your resilience, hard work and honesty with which you’ve carried yourself through all these years playing football at the top. Really happy for you.
“God bless you and your family. They must all be very proud of you as you would be of your own journey. My best wishes always. Congratulations,” Kohli posted on X.
The 33-year-old Kane led England to a third-place finish in the World Cup this year and collected 73 goals (club and country combined).
The striker was also the dominant force in Bayern Munich’s trophy double this season — the Bundesliga and German Cup.
Kane became the first England player in over two decades to win the award. Michael Owen had last won it for the country back in 2001.
His competition for the honour included Kylian Mbappe, Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Lionel Messi.
Established in 1956, the Ballon d’Or is considered the biggest individual honour in international football and is decided after voting by selected international journalists — one per eligible nation.
