
Tirupati crime police arrested a 20-year-old youth for house break-in of his aunt and recovered gold ornaments worth `28.16 lakh within 24 hours in Tirupati.
The accused, Annam Prithvi of Chennareddy Colony, was arrested. Police recovered 177.6 grams of gold jewellery valued at `28.16 lakh, along with a Honda Activa scooter, a mobile phone, a house key and a screwdriver allegedly used in the offence.
According to police, the accused targeted his aunt’s house after learning that the family had gone out on May 28. He allegedly used a spare key to enter the house and forced open a safe kept in a bedroom cupboard before stealing the ornaments.
The case was cracked during vehicle checks near Alipiri on Saturday. Police said the youth was found carrying the jewellery and failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the theft and the stolen property was recovered in full. Police said he was planning to dispose of the ornaments when he was apprehended.

Assistant engineer caught while accepting bribe in Nandyal
An assistant engineer engaged on a contract basis under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan was apprehended by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials in Nandyal district on charges of allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe for processing contractors’ bills.
The case was registered following a complaint by T. Sriramulu, a civil contractor from Telecom Nagar in Kurnool. The accused, identified as T. Ramesh, was serving as an Assistant Engineer at Ponnapuram in Nandyal district.
According to ACB officials, Sriramulu had executed construction works at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Jupadu Bangla, including a computer room costing ₹18.50 lakh and a library room costing ₹23.10 lakh, with a total project value of about ₹41.60 lakh.
The complainant alleged that after completion of the works, the Assistant Engineer demanded ₹40,000 to enter the details in the Measurement Book (M-Book) and process the pending bills.
Following the complaint, ACB officials conducted a trap operation. The accused was allegedly caught while accepting the bribe amount on Saturday within the Nandikotkur–Kurnool-Guntur highway limits in Nandyal district.
The ACB took the accused into custody and arrested him. Officials said searches were being conducted at his residence and office premises.
The accused is expected to be produced before the ACB Court in Kurnool.
Construction worker dies by suicide
A construction worker has died by suicide at the government hospital building in Guntur on Saturday.
According to police, Ch. Srinivas, 50 hailing from Undi village in West Godavari district was admitted to the hospital on May 23 as he was suffering with kidney disease. He came out from the ward to answer nature’s call and resorted to the extreme step. His wife too died recently.
Police booked a case of suspicious death and investigation is in progress.
