Bhubaneswar: A youth went missing after a boat carrying three persons capsized in the Mantei River near Baliapal Ghat in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Thursday, officials said.
According to preliminary information, the three were conducting a survey for a proposed approach road project in the river stretch when the incident took place. The boat reportedly lost balance and overturned in the middle of the river, throwing all three into the strong current.
Local residents rushed to the spot and launched an immediate rescue effort. Two of the youths were pulled out of the water safely.
The third youth, however, remained missing and was feared to have been swept away by the current.
On being informed, Fire Services personnel and police from Ghanteswar Police Station reached the site and began a search and rescue operation. Divers and rescue teams were deployed to trace the missing youth, and efforts were continuing till the filing of this report.
District administration officials were closely monitoring the situation as family members and villagers gathered on the riverbank awaiting updates.
