Zayn Malik has opened up about his actions, revealing that he’s not right all of the time, following an alleged incident which saw him reportedly punch Louis Tomlinson
Zayn Malik has said he’s “not always right” following an alleged incident with Louis Tomlinson. The two former One Direction stars had joined forces after rekindling their friendship and were filming a Netflix show documenting a road trip across the United States.
The pair became friends when Nicole Scherzinger created the chart-mauling boyband on The X Factor in 2010, with Harry Styles, Niall Horan and the late Liam Payne completing the line-up. But after Zayn announced his departure in 2015, cracks in their friendship began to appear, leading to a lengthy fallout.
However, their friendship appears to be on thin ice again, following an alleged incident between the pair. Reports – unconfirmed by the pair – claim that Zayn “punched” Louis while filming, leaving Netflix bosses with no choice but to scrap the project.
Now, Zayn has addressed his previous actions in a new interview, explaining he’s turned his back on his “brash arrogance”. Nowadays, Malik, 33, says he handles things differently, having learnt to love himself.
“It allows you to love everybody,” he said. Speaking on The Zach Sang Show, the Bradford-born musician went on to say: “And not even just in a romantic relationship sense, just like friends, people that you speak to have a conversation with. They can express their ideas to you, and you’re a lot more receptive of what they’re saying.
“You don’t always have to agree, either. Someone can have a completely different opinion to you, and that’s fine. We’re not all the same. It’s cool. Also, [some people] undervalue the ability to not be right. You don’t always have to be right.”
The Connexion singer continued: “I don’t know the specific moment [I realised that], but definitely in the last few years. Like, you want to be right… that brash arrogance and s**t. But as you get older, I don’t know if it’s the same for everybody, but it chills out a bit. It subsides, that inner voice.”
It was in the same interview that Zayn addressed the mystery surrounding his song, Take Turns, asking host Zach what he thinks the song is about. “What do you think Take Turns is about?” Zayn asked Zach, who appeared startled by the question.
Zach responded: “I mean, it is sexy, you sing ‘love me like you hate me.'” Zayn added: “I wanna know what you think it’s about, I’m not gonna tell you what it’s about, but what did you think it’s about?” Zach explained he believed the track was about a “toxic relationship,” with Zayn saying: “A little bit, yeah, it’s definitely toxic, yeah.”
Last week, it was claimed that Zayn left Louis injured after striking him while wearing rings on his fingers. “Zayn started acting up and was mouthing off. It spiralled into a row,” a source claimed. The insider told The Sun that Louis was stunned and in shock by a comment Zayn made and was attacked when he tried to move. “Zayn punched him straight in the face,” the source went on to claim.
They added: “He was pulled away, and Louis was taken for medical treatment. This happened outside in front of so many people. It was shocking.” Neither Louis nor Zayn has addressed the allegations. Meanwhile, Zayn is currently recovering in a hospital after a mystery health battle, during which he thanked cardiologists for taking care of him.
He was scheduled to promote his fifth studio album, Konnakol, with a string of in-store events, including an album playback and question-and-answer session at Banquet Records in Kingston, which has now been postponed to a later date.
