NALGONDA: Telangana state agriculture and farmers’ welfare commission chairman N. Kodanda Reddy on Saturday said strict action would be taken against officials if farmers faced inconvenience in selling paddy at procurement centres.
He inspected Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) paddy procurement centres and SLBC area, and interacted with farmers. He also reviewed grain stocks, moisture levels, chaff content and weight deductions at the centres.
Kodanda Reddy said farmers need not visit rice mills after selling their produce at procurement centres, adding that officials were responsible for ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers.
He warned that action would be taken against officials, millers and procurement centre organisers if they were found violating procurement policy. He said rice millers should not have any role in procurement at centres.
He directed that receipts be issued immediately after purchase of paddy and payment be directly credited into farmers’ bank accounts.
He said hamali charges have been fixed at ?45 per quintal by the State government and must be strictly followed.
Kodanda Reddy said complaints had been received regarding weight deductions, moisture levels and hamali charges, and assured corrective measures.
He visited the procurement centre at Arjalabavi in Nalgonda as part of the inspection.
