BBC Radio 2 star Zoe Ball said she has been inundated with messages since mentioning the procedure, after missing out on the Strictly Come Dancing presenting role
Zoe Ball has addressed speculation about whether she plans to have a face lift after being inundated with messages from concerned fans. Last month, the presenter joked that she had considered undergoing the procedure in the hope of landing the role of the new host of Strictly Come Dancing.
However, it has since emerged that she did not get the job. Instead, Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe will step into the roles previously held by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, following their departure last year.
Speaking on a new episode of the Zoe and Jo Whiley’s Dig It podcast, the 55-year-old revealed that she has ruled out having a face lift, although she has recently made another change to her appearance.
Discussing Invisalign, a treatment that gradually straightens teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners, Zoe revealed she had recently started wearing them on her lower teeth.
“I’ve just had mine fitted,” she told her co-star. “Do you remember I said, ‘No face lift’, which was a joke by the way because loads of people keep getting in touch saying, ‘Don’t have a face lift’.
“I’m like, ‘It was actually a joke, I’m not going to get a face lift’. She joked of the procedure: “They take your ears off, that’s what they do! I don’t want them to take my ears off and yank it up,” before teasing: “Although, never say never.”
Revealing how she was coping with the aligners so far, she added: “But I am straightening my teeth, I have Invisalign on the bottom.
“It’s alright actually, I haven’t lost it [the retainer] so far, I haven’t left it [anywhere]. It’s tricky to get on and off at the beginning, they’re quite rigid but I’ve got used to it,” before adding: “I’m definitely eating and drinking less because you just can’t be doing with the taking it out and brushing your teeth and brushing it and putting it back in.
“It’s just the bottom ones at the moment and it doesn’t affect my speech too badly.”
Zoe previously admitted she went through “seven stages of grief and rejection” after learning she had not been chosen as one of the new Strictly Come Dancing hosts. Considered one of the frontrunners for the role, the BBC Radio 2 star was widely backed by fans, largely due to her long-standing connection to the show and presenting skills.
She first appeared on Strictly as a contestant alongside Ian Waite in 2005 before going on to present Strictly: It Takes Two for a decade.
After discovering who had secured the role, before the BBC officially confirmed the news, Zoe reassured fans that the programme was “in safe hands” with its new “fabulous” hosts.
The BBC has already begun announcing the celebrities set to take part in this year’s series. Among those confirmed so far are EastEnders star Lacey Turner, Love Island winner Dani Dyer and singer Delta Goodrem.
