The 1994 Jalgaon scandal involved allegations of sexual exploitation and reportedly affected hundreds of women. Meeran Borwankar was the only woman in her 1981 IPS batch when she took on the investigation, despite pressure and warnings to stay away from Jalgaon.
Twelve women eventually came forward with formal complaints. The accused were convicted by a Sessions Court, though the convictions were later overturned by the High Court.
