Jesus de Miguel’s club, Tenerife, shared a message after his passing and said they still cannot believe the footballer’s death. They added that no words could ease the pain and nothing could lessen the feeling of loss. They prayed for the family and close friends of the footballer. The statement can be read as:
“Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe this is real, CD Tenerife announces the tragic death, at 8:00 am (7 am GMT), of Jesus de Miguel Alameda. No words can ease the pain; nothing can lessen this great feeling of sadness. Our thoughts are with the family, his close friends and Tenerife fans, who today are grieving over this terrible news.”
For those who don’t know, Jesus had clashed with the goalkeeper, who had rushed out of his area to clear a long ball and struck him in the chest with his knee. After which, the 30-year-old footballer collapsed. It happened towards the end of the match at the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez stadium with the teams level at 2-2. He was given immediate medical treatment and the match was stopped.
However, initially, the media claimed that Jesus suffered a cardiac arrest and was resuscitated. He was taken to the hospital and was in the ICU. According to his club, his condition worsened neurologically before his passing. Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique prayed for him on social media.
Netizens on Reddit shared their thoughts. One user wrote, “This is so unfortunate, I hope he rests in peace. I really hope people don’t go all out and blame the goalkeeper here because, as much as this is a horrible situation all round, I think he was going for the ball, as dangerous as it was. I really hope the intention wasn’t to hurt the opponent; it certainly did not look like that from the video clips. I will give him the benefit of the doubt here.”
A second one wrote, “I had read that he received CPR on the field and his condition was stable in the hospital. This is so shockingly sad. One of the saddest things we’ve experienced in football till now. I wonder what the goalkeeper must be feeling like? He literally resulted in the loss of life with that reckless tackle.”
A third one commented, “So why would this goalkeeper not be charged criminally for this? If I knee someone in the chest and they die as a result, I’d get charged with manslaughter at the least. Does the fact it happened during a sports game make it so he’s not liable?”
Jesus had been at Tenerife for over a season, and he joined the club in 2026. Within a short time span, he helped the team gain promotion to the second division. He started his career with Leganés at the youth level in the Madrid suburbs and played for a string of teams, including Unionistas de Salamanca and more.
