Ballari: Police teams conducted simultaneous raids on 381 houses of rowdy-sheeters across the Ballari Range on Monday morning as part of a special drive aimed at keeping habitual offenders under surveillance and curbing unlawful activities.

Ballari Range Inspector General of Police Dr PS Harsha told reporters that the operation from 6 am to 8 am on Monday covered Ballari, Vijayanagara, Raichur, and Koppal – the districts coming under Ballari Range. A total of 116 teams comprising police officers and personnel participated in the exercise.

In Ballari district alone, Anti-Rowdy Squads and local police personnel conducted searches at 104 houses across 17 police station limits. Police verified 103 rowdy-sheeters, while one was found absent.

“The operation was conducted to control illegal activities by keeping overall surveillance on rowdy-sheeters, including monitoring their movements, occupation, means of livelihood, and involvement in unlawful activities through social media,” he added.

During the searches in Ballari district, police recovered an air gun, stamp papers, and promissory notes from the residence of a rowdy-sheeter under the APMC police station limits. The articles are being examined, and further legal action will be taken if required.

After the operation, rowdy-sheeters were assembled at the District Armed Reserve grounds in Ballari city for verification and a parade.

Across the range, police teams checked 104 houses in Ballari district, 106 in Vijayanagara, 103 in Raichur, and 68 in Koppal. Officials said surveillance on rowdy-sheeters would continue and similar operations would be conducted in the coming days.

Harsha said the process of securing externment orders had earlier been time-consuming, but powers had now been delegated to the police station level to expedite action. Across the four districts, police have submitted 190 externment proposals so far, with orders issued in 79 cases. While 45 proposals were rejected, 71 are pending consideration. Ballari accounted for 35 proposals, followed by Raichur (40), Vijayanagara (9), and Koppal (5). He added that 48 rowdy-sheeters are currently in jail across the range, including 19 from Koppal, 13 from Ballari, 10 from Raichur, and six from Vijayanagara.

SP Suman D Pennekar was present at the press conference.
