Visakhapatnam: A controversy has erupted in Anakapalli district over the denial of admission to a tribal student at the Nathavaram Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya.
Somula Dhanalakshmi, hailing from Jogampeta village under Cheemalapadu Panchayat in Ravikamatham mandal, had successfully cleared her 10th-grade examinations, including a supplementary attempt. Following her application to the BiPC stream at schools in Ravikamatham, Rolugunta, and Nathavaram, she received a phone call confirming her admission to Nathavaram KGBV.
The school had advised her to send her hall ticket via WhatsApp, and she was told she could join immediately upon passing the supplementary exam. However, when she arrived at the institution after clearing her exams, she was informed that all seats had been filled.
This denial has sparked protests from tribal rights groups. K Govinda Rao, district honorary president of the Adivasi Girijana Sangham, has demanded that a seat be allocated to Dhanalakshmi without delay. He said students must not be deprived of educational opportunities due to administrative lapses.
