As many as 450 Vedic scholars were honoured at a Veda Vidvath Sabha held on Indrakeeladri on Sunday as part of the Dasara Sharannavaratri celebrations at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy temple.
The programme was organised on the sixth floor of Sri Mallikarjuna Maha Mandapam, with Andhra Pradesh Revenue (Endowments) Secretary K. Kannababu attending as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Kannababu highlighted the significance of the Vedas and Upanishads in Sanatana Dharma, describing them as pillars of Indian culture and spiritual life. He said they embodied profound wisdom aimed at human welfare and universal peace.
He lauded the scholars for preserving the ancient oral tradition through generations by maintaining accurate pronunciation and disciplined recitation.
Temple Executive Officer V.K. Seena Naik said it was auspicious that Indrakeeladri resonated with Vedic chants during the Dasara festivities. Trust board chairman Borra Radhakrishna said protecting the Vedas was integral to preserving dharma and that recitation of all four Vedas had sanctified the temple premises.
Conducted under the supervision of Brahmasri Chintapalli Anjaneya Ghanapathi, the programme concluded with customary benedictions. The temple authorities felicitated 450 Ghanapathis, Kramapathis and other Vedic scholars from various regions with shawls, sacred garments of the presiding deity, prasadam and mementoes.
Meanwhile, the eighth day of the Dasara festivities featured a grand procession of Lord Malleswara Swamy accompanied by Goddess Ganga Parvati (Durga) during the auspicious evening Pradosham period.
The procession passed through Ratham Centre, the Vinayaka temple in One Town, Canal Road, Durga Ghat and Ghat Road. Devotees offered camphor harathi and coconuts as the illuminated chariot moved through the streets amid traditional music, Kerala Panchavadyam performances and kolatam dances.
At the hill shrine, Goddess Kanaka Durga appeared in the Durga Devi alankaram. Information and Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy visited the temple with his family and prayed for the state’s prosperity, peace and the well-being of its people.
Temple authorities and the NTR district administration coordinated arrangements for smooth darshan. Drinking water, buttermilk and milk were provided to devotees, while hot milk was distributed to children and mothers with infants waiting in queues. NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha interacted with devotees and directed officials to address their difficulties promptly.
