Hyderabad:A mass yoga demonstration of more than 6,000 participants performing Bhujangasana in unison at Kanha Shanti Vanam entered the Asia Book of Records on Saturday, kicking off the 50‑day countdown to International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026.

Organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the ministry of Ayush, the event drew participants from more than 20 countries — including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Kazakhstan and Namibia — underscoring yoga’s growing global reach.

Union minister for coal and mines G Kishan Reddy said yoga offers ”a practical and cost‑effective solution to modern‑day challenges such as stress, unhealthy lifestyles and pollution’’, adding that a healthy, disciplined society is essential to achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047. He said Hyderabad should grow as a global hub for yoga and wellness alongside its technology ecosystem.

Minister of state for Ayush and health Prataprao Jadhav said yoga has become a global movement for holistic well‑being and strengthens India’s position as a centre for wellness and healthcare. He highlighted the Yoga 365 campaign, under which a 100‑day free training programme runs until 21 June, aiming to reach more than 100,000 participants and offer Yog Mitra certification.
