WARANGAL: At 89, when many people rely on a walking stick for support, Mamidi Narsayya of Pochammakunta in Hanumakonda continues to pedal his way to fitness, inspiring people much younger than him.

His enthusiastic participation in a cycling rally organised by the Warangal police on Tuesday as part of Police Martyrs’ Commemoration Week impressed one and all.

Narsayya’s presence drew admiration from police officials and fellow cyclists, who applauded his determination and commitment to staying active despite his advanced age.

City police commissioner N Swetha said the rally was organised to honour police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty while protecting the public and to promote awareness of physical fitness and healthy living. “Narsayya’s participation conveyed a strong message that age need not be a barrier to an active lifestyle, provided one remains committed to exercise and personal well-being,” the commissioner said.

Narsayya said he goes for a walk every day and actively participates in the Walker Association programmes, reflecting his continued interest in fitness and community activities. Exercise, he said, has no age limit.

Addressing the gathering, the commissioner said the sacrifices made by police martyrs in the service of society were invaluable and would always be remembered. She said the rally was intended not only to pay tribute to the fallen personnel but also to encourage people to make physical exercise part of their daily routine.

Good participation: Around 200 people took part in the rally, including Hanumakonda collector Chahat Bajpai, TGNPDCL chief Karnati Varun Reddy and members of various cycling groups from the tri-cities. Several participants aged above 60 also joined the event enthusiastically.
