Karimanagar: The city police on Sunday announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the gang that looted a gold shop in Karimnagar.

Police commissioner Ghouse Alam, briefing the media on the daylight robbery at the PMJ jewellery showroom, said multiple teams had been formed and the accused would be traced soon.

“A five-member gang executed the robbery after 11 am. One member entered the shop first on the pretext of enquiry, followed by four others. They held the security guard at gunpoint and began the loot,” he said.

“When three staff members tried to resist, the robbers opened fire,” the commissioner added. Four employees sustained bullet injuries but are now stable and out of danger.

Alam said police reached the spot by 11.20 am, within minutes of receiving information. CCTV footage has captured images of four suspects with their faces uncovered.

Police recovered bullets and cartridges from four different pistols at the scene, along with a magazine found behind the showroom. After collecting ornaments, the accused fled on two motorcycles — a black Pulsar and a white Apache.

The commissioner said the exact value of the stolen jewellery was yet to be assessed. “The showroom management is conducting an inventory audit and will disclose the loss soon,” he said.

Forensic teams are collecting fingerprints and other evidence, while special teams are checking hotels and lodges as part of the manhunt.

Alam urged the public to share any information about the suspects or their vehicles, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
