Singer Shakira has been slammed by fans after she was caught appearing to be lip-syncing twice at her Copacabana Beach concert, a history-making gig which reportedly two million people attended for free

Shakira has been slammed by fans after she was allegedly caught lip-syncing in front of a reported two million people at her Copacabana Beach concert. The Hips Don’t Lie singer was playing a history-making gig at the Brazilian beach in front of a huge crowd of people, who had come to listen to her for free, when the blunder was spotted.

Clips from the gig, where Shakira performed a nearly 30-song set, went viral on X, formerly known as Twitter, and some pointed out that there were moments when what she seemed to be singing didn’t match the audio.

One fan said: “If ur gonna lip, at least make it believable.” Another added: “This is genuinely a f***ing mess.” A third said: “What an awful vocal and performance.”

The Colombian singer played a free show on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. Her concert was reportedly attended by two million people and follows similar shows performed by Lady Gaga and Madonna in 2025 and 2024, respectively.

During the set, she sang Hips Don’t Lie, La Tortura, Whenever Wherever, She Wolf and her World Cup song Waka Waka among many more. The gig was lit up by a drone show.

Shakira, who was joined by special guests such as Anitta, told the crowd: “I arrived here when I was 18 years old, dreaming about singing for you. And now look at this. Life is magical.”

Even though the concert was free, Shakira is thought to have generated an estimated $ 150 million (£110m) in tourism revenue for the city. Rio de Janeiro funded the event to help revitalise the local economy.

Earlier this year, Shakira suffered a nasty fall during a concert. She was singing her hit song Si Te Vas as she ran across the stage. During the walk, she suddenly twisted her ankle and was sent crashing to the ground. Shakira fell on her elbow and took her microphone stand down with her.

In a matter of seconds, though, she was back on her feet and continued with the song. She added to the crowd: “Ouch, what a fall!” Her speedy recovery was met with a cheer from her guitarist.

But fans remained worried about the singer, but praised her for how she handled the fall. One local said: “Shakira has overcome worse falls and always manages to rise like a phoenix!”

“Poor thing but that can happen to anyone, let’s go Shakira!” added another. A third said: “Super agile in getting up quickly and continuing the show.”

Fans were so worried that Shakira hopped on Instagram the next day to assuage fears. “Don’t worry,” she wrote in Spanish. “I’m made of rubber hahah.” She added: “No one is immune to falls.”

The stop in San Salvador was part of Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. The tour’s title translates as ‘Women No Longer Cry’ and continued through to April.
