Music director Devi Sri Prasad is excited about Yellamma, his maiden venture as a lead actor. Ahead of the film’s shoot, the composer visited his ancestral village, Vedurupaka, in Andhra Pradesh, to reconnect with his roots and recharge spiritually. The visit holds both thematic and emotional significance as he prepares for his acting debut.
An emotional return to his roots
During his stay, Devi Sri Prasad, who has delivered some of Indian cinema’s biggest chartbusters since the early 2000s, visited his family home and spent time interacting warmly with villagers. He also enthusiastically participated in the local festivities and celebrations.
DSP revealed that his late father, Satyamurthy, would often bring the family to Vedurupaka during his childhood. These visits, he said, helped them experience nature and understand the essence of rural life. The folk traditions, spiritual atmosphere, and cultural richness of the village deeply influenced him growing up. Interestingly, he is now drawing inspiration from those very experiences for Yellamma.
The composer also shared a video of his village visit on social media, writing that reconnecting with one’s roots and experiencing age-old traditions “hits differently.” The video showcased the vibrant spirit of the village Jathara celebrations and highlighted DSP’s emotional connection with the place..

A spiritual narrative with commercial potential
Devi Sri Prasad, who recently composed music for Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh, stated that the visit reminded him of the traditions and folk culture that shaped his passion for music and storytelling. He especially credited the Ammoru Jatara celebrations in his father’s village as a major inspiration behind his decision to act in Yellamma.
Expectations surrounding the project are already high, primarily because it is being directed by Venu Yeldandi, who previously helmed the critically acclaimed blockbuster Balagam. At a time when stories rooted in local deities and native culture are striking a chord with audiences, Yellamma is being seen as a film with massive emotional and commercial potential.
