Tirupati: A hotel cashier in Tirupati has been commended for her honesty after she returned a handbag containing 300 grams of gold jewellery worth around Rs 45 lakh to its owner.

The incident occurred when Bharath, a resident of Bengaluru, forgot the bag at Hotel Garudadri while returning from a wedding in Tirumala. “We had come to attend a wedding in Tirumala. After the wedding, we came down to Tirupati to leave for Bengaluru. We stopped at Hotel Garudadri to eat and, in a hurry, left the bag containing the gold at the hotel,” Bharath said. “I realised the jewellery bag was missing only after reaching Bengaluru and immediately informed the police.”

Cashier Shashi, who found the bag, kept it safe and surrendered it to the police after they inquired about it. In the presence of Tirupati District SP L. Subbarayudu, the gold jewellery was formally handed over to Bharath and his family.

Appreciating the cashier’s integrity, SP Subbarayudu felicitated Shashi with a shawl and lauded her for setting an example.
