A woman was left gobsmacked when she heard singing coming from her neighbour’s garden and peeked through her fence to see what was going on – only to spot a pop star
Garden parties and barbecues are a staple of the season, but you’d hardly expect your neighbours to casually invite a celebrity along to join in the festivities.
The glorious summer sunshine has most of us making full use of our outdoor spaces, whether that’s firing up the grill, hosting garden gatherings, or simply soaking up the rays. It’s always wise to be considerate of those living nearby when throwing a party, but by and large, people understand the urge to let loose when the weather plays ball. One woman on social media, however, was left utterly speechless when she discovered what her neighbours had been getting up to in their back garden over the weekend.
Haz MacVay posted a clip on TikTok revealing she could hear music and singing drifting over from next door, prompting her to take a cheeky peek through her fence panels to investigate.
What she stumbled upon left her completely baffled – her neighbours had pulled off the ultimate party trick by inviting an actual celebrity to their garden bash.
As Haz held her phone up to the fence panel, a man dressed in black and sporting a pink feather boa could be spotted belting out the Gareth Gates version of The Spirit in the Sky, released in 2003 and featuring The Kumars.
That man was none other than Gareth Gates himself.
Haz captioned her TikTok clip: “Why is Gareth Gates in my neighbours’ garden performing Spirit in the Sky?” before cheekily adding: “Free performance though!” Fellow social media users were equally puzzled by Gareth’s appearance in Haz’s neighbour’s garden, with many questioning what sort of occasion would call for a Gareth Gates performance.
One person said: “What sort of garden party would require Gareth Gates?” Another joked: “This is why it pays to befriend your neighbours.”
A third added: “I didn’t expect to actually be Gareth Gates.”
Others quipped that it was “rude” of Haz’s neighbours not to extend an invitation to her, while many noted that the footage captured through the gap in the fence made the clip all the more amusing.
While the reason behind Gareth Gates’ performance in the garden remains unclear, a photo board adorned with balloons could be spotted in one corner, alongside a table lined with Champagne flutes and several chairs dotted around.
This would suggest the gathering may well have been a garden wedding reception or birthday celebration, for which Gareth had been hired to entertain guests.
Whatever the occasion, it’s safe to say everyone appeared to have a brilliant time — including the lucky neighbour next door!
