Barry Keoghan is leading all the headlines after he underwent a cosmetic procedure to change the way he looks. Kim Kardashian and Naomi Watts love the procedure, and it costs USD 6K. The 34-year-old star was questioned about his changing appearance, and it was later revealed that he had turned to a high-tech skin-tightening treatment called XERF.

Barry’s treatment left many wondering why he opted for it. And as per reports, Barry himself once revealed that he suffered abuse due to the way he looked. Earlier this year, Barry stated that he dealt a lot with criticism that is centred around how he looked. He said, “There’s a lot of hate online. It’s a lot of abuse about how I look.”

While Barry has an incredible fanbase, some people pass mean remarks. He added that his three-year-old son, Brando (whom he welcomed with his former girlfriend), would also have to read all of this stuff when he gets older. Barry added that no matter what event he attends or where he goes, they pass mean remarks. It has forced him to stay away from online. He added that it forced him not to attend events or go outside. He said:
“If I attend an event, or if I go somewhere, [I] want to see how it was received, and it’s not nice. It’s made me shy away; it’s made me really go inside myself and not want to attend places, not want to go outside. And I say this, being absolutely pure and honest with you. It’s becoming a problem. I actually don’t go to places because of these things.”
Barry added that it could become a problem, as the opinions might leak into his art and he won’t be able to deliver his best performance. He added that then one cannot even want to be on screen anymore. In the Instagram video going viral by the celebrity skin specialist, Nilam Holmes, Barry can be seen lying on a treatment bed in a clinic as he wears a white headband.
The practitioner moves a handheld device over his cheeks, around his nose, and along his jawline. The Irish actor said he’d heard a lot about it. He called it a therapeutic experience. He also expressed the importance of looking after oneself. He said:
“I’ve been hearing a lot about it, and Nilam is very excited about it. And she’s brilliant at what she does. I really mean that. Every time I come in, it’s very relaxing and therapeutic. Nilam looks after my skin. I feel better about myself. I look better. I think it’s important to look after yourself inside and outside.”

The treatment was developed in South Korea and has become popular among Hollywood stars. It uses controlled bursts of radiofrequency energy to heat the deeper layers of the face, which encourages the body to produce collagen, a natural protein that keeps skin firm, with the aim of tightening the loose skin, sharpening the jawline and creating a more youthful appearance.
It is a lot different from a facelift, the procedure which involves cuts, needles or anaesthesia, and the results come gradually over several months. So far, Barry has taken two sessions of the treatment. In fact, when he attended a premiere of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man in March 2026, there was a buzz about his fuller cheeks and lips.
