Heavy rain triggered by cyclone Murasu disrupted road connectivity in parts of Guntur and Bapatla districts, prompting police to suspend traffic on several vulnerable stretches and issue public advisories.
In Guntur district, police imposed restrictions at several low-lying locations where floodwaters inundated roads and crossings. Traffic was suspended on the Guntur-Amaravati road near Lam after water flowed across a low-level causeway. Tadikonda police stopped vehicular movement as a precaution.
Another low-level crossing at Pamulapadu in Tadikonda mandal was closed after a stream began flowing over the causeway. Police said the restrictions were intended to prevent vehicles from being swept away by strong currents.
In Guntur city, waterlogging at the Kankaragunta underpass in AT Agraharam led police to block traffic on the affected stretch. West Traffic Circle Inspector Singayya supervised the operation.
Traffic regulation was also intensified near the Three Bridges junction in Arundelpet. Traffic DSP S. Kantha Rao and Traffic East SI Balu Naik supervised measures to regulate vehicle movement and reduce congestion.
In neighbouring Bapatla district, floodwaters flowed across a section of National Highway-16. Police said water levels rose to nearly four feet on the highway between Tatapadu and the Bollapalli Toll Plaza, creating hazardous conditions for road users.
