Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has defended Jayden Bogle following his challenge on Mathys Tel during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Tottenham, insisting the defender had no intention of hurting the Spurs forward.

Bogle came under scrutiny after a collision with Tel left the Tottenham player injured, but Farke was quick to dismiss suggestions that his defender had acted maliciously.

The Leeds boss described Bogle as one of the gentlest players in the Premier League, revealing that he affectionately refers to him as his “butterfly”.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Farke was asked about Bogle’s involvement in the incident that left Tel injured.

“I haven’t watched it back. I have heard there were several doubtful situations. A possible hand ball,” Farke said.

“I just know that Jayden Bogle out of any bad intention. It looked like a coming together.

“It’s very unlucky outcome that Mathys is injured and we wish him all the best and he can recover quickly,” he added.

“The last thing Jayden Bogle is a nasty player. He’s possibly the softest player in the whole league.”

The Leeds manager then revealed the nickname he has given the defender, insisting it reflects his personality.

“I always call him my butterfly, and I can guarantee it was never out of bad intention.”

Leeds boss hails ‘fully deserved’ Tottenham win

Despite the controversy surrounding Bogle’s challenge, Farke was delighted with his side’s performance as Leeds secured all three points against Tottenham.

“We were pushing to win this game and were relentless,” Farke said.

“We showed great spirit, commitment and unity. It was a fully deserved win.”
