The Detroit Red Wings hit the road tonight against the Colorado Avalanche for the first of a four game road trip hoping to get back on the right track after losing their last two games. Detroit is still trying to find its identity as it moves through the season, although helping that has been the young nucleus forming around the Red Wings’ youngsters.
Led by sophomore Emmitt Finnie, the team has seen a lot of solid contributions from players who aren’t all even legally allowed to drink here in the states. Finnie has 7 goals and 4 assists while centering the Red Wings top line, tied for second on the team in goals and fourth on the team in overall points.

With Dylan Larkin out of the lineup, the Red Wings have been relying heavily on the young Canadian. The team will hopefully be getting some reinforcements down the middle in the near future, with Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton returning to the lineup.
Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan did tell the media that the two were going to travel with the team, though he has not set a specific return date for the pair of penalty-killing forwards.
Meanwhile, rookie defensemen Anton Johansson and William Wallinder have both found the back of the net twice while finding their footing in the NHL and are contributing to a Red Wings defense that seems significantly improved over last year.
Facing off against last year’s President’s Trophy winners tonight will be a big test in their young careers, not to mention their rematches with the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning to finish the trip.

Daniil Tarasov is off to a hot start with the Red Wings, even if it isn’t showing in the wins column.
Sheldon Dries is making his case to stay with Detroit.

The Detroit Red Wings signed big forward Sutter Muzzatti from the Nashville Predators in the offseason, and after an early injury in the Grand Rapids Griffins season, the 6-foot-6 forward is back on ice. The Griffins currently lead the AHL with the best record in the league and have been one of the best offensive attacks on a nightly basis to boot.
Muzzatti scored a goal in his return from injury, helping the Griffins beat his draft-team’s farm club.
🚨MUZZATTI!!!🚨
WELCOME BACK SUTTER!!!
Dylan James makes a great play along the boards behind the Milwaukee net to find Muzzatti wide open in the slot and he gives the Griffins a 1-0 lead!!!#GoGRG #AHL #LGRW pic.twitter.com/NeYCU0hWut
