Bhopal: Celebrated Indian-American singer Daljit Singh Dosanjh has been barred from performing four songs, including his signature music chart ‘Patiala Pegg’ at his November 15 concert at Indore in Madhya Pradesh, by a local government department.
The Indore district child welfare office has issued an order directing the organizers of the concert to see that the Punjabi star does not perform the four particular songs, lyrics of which harped on liquor, drug and weapons, to protect the minors, attending the event, from any kind of adverse impacts.
The district child welfare officer communicated its decision to the district collector, Vijaynagar police station and Indore district women and child development department, sources said.
The officer cited a direction to the effect by the Punjab- Haryana high court on July 22, 2019, to justify his order, sources said.
The court directive came in response to a petition filed by Chandigarh-based professor Panditrao Darrenavar who alleged that the lyrics of these songs promote liquor, drugs and weapons.
Three other songs, barred at the Indore concert, are ‘5 Tara Theeke’, ‘Jeeb Vicho Labbiya’, and ‘Jatt Uthe Fire Karda Jithe Pabandi Hathiyara Di’.
The singer’s upcoming concert at Indore has already become the talk of the city with three local private schools and the office of Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav receiving emails threatening improvised explosive device (IED) explosions on the day of the event.
Bomb disposal squads promptly screened all these places and found no explosives in their campuses and premises.
Indore Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya said that preliminary findings suggested that the emails may be hoaxes.
The crime branch is now probing the sources of these emails, he said.
The singer however dared the threat mail senders to disrupt his show, asserting that he would perform at Indore despite such intimidations.
In a video message, he said that he would land at Indore at right time to perform and is waiting eagerly to taste the city’s quintessential snack, Poha (made of flattened rice).
The Indore show is part of the ongoing AURA India Tour 2026.
