Big-name UK retailers, including Asda, TK Maxx, Amazon, and online marketplaces, have issued urgent product recalls over items said to pose serious health and safety risks
Several major UK retailers, including Asda, Amazon, eBay, and TK Maxx, have issued urgent product recalls, urging customers to stop using items immediately and seek refunds.
The recalls involve a wide range of everyday items, from household appliances to children’s products and cosmetics, all of which have been deemed to pose serious risks to health and safety.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) are urging customers who have purchased the items to “stop using the product immediately”.
Below is a summary of the recalled products and the reasons for their recall:
Wednesday Addams Costume sold via eBay
A children’s Wednesday Addams costume sold via eBay has been urgently recalled after failing critical fire safety tests. The recall comes after regulators found that the black wig included with the costume did not meet the flammability standards set out in BS EN 71-2, a European and British Standard that specifies toy safety and the categories of flammable materials prohibited in all toys. Tests showed that the hair continued to burn for 10 to 15 seconds after the ignition source was removed, exceeding the two-second safety limit.
The OPSS warned that if exposed to a flame, the wig could catch fire and burn for a prolonged period, putting wearers at serious risk of burns. Some of the required documentation and safety markings were also missing.
The product does not comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The recall was initiated by distributor TG Derby Ltd, and the eBay listing has been removed. Anyone who purchased the costume is urged to stop using it immediately and keep it away from young children.

Omani Brothers Umm Khammas Henna Paste
A product recall has been issued for Omani Brothers Umm Khammas Henna Paste after the OPSS identified a “serious chemical risk” linked to the presence of phenol, a substance banned in cosmetic products.
Phenol can cause severe skin burns and eye damage and is also toxic if ingested. The OPSS also highlighted concerns about inadequate labelling and information provided with the product.
Budget Pound Plus, the retailer, has removed the product from sale and initiated the recall. Consumers are urged to stop using the paste immediately and to contact the retailer or supplier to arrange for a replacement or refund.

2200W Vertical Steam Iron sold via eBay
The 2200W Vertical Steam Iron sold on eBay has been recalled due to a high risk of fire because its plug lacks a fuse. The item has since been removed by eBay.
The appliance poses a high risk of fire because the plug lacks a fuse and does not meet the dimensional requirements of BS 1363. A compliant fuse is required to ensure the safe operation of the product under fault conditions, and its absence could cause the plug to overheat and/or explode. The pins were also smaller than the minimum dimensions required by the standard. The product’s warnings and markings also require improvement.
The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994.
Anyone with the iron is being told to “stop using the product immediately” and contact eBay for a replacement or refund.

LEDSone UK Ltd AC-DC Power Supply Adapter
A major recall has been issued for the LEDSone UK Ltd AC-DC Power Supply Adapter after the OPSS identified a serious fire risk. They found that the product’s mains plug is not fitted with an appropriate fuse link and does not meet the required dimensions under British Standard 1363.
Without a compliant fuse, the plug could overheat or even explode during a fault, posing a significant risk to users. Further inspection revealed that the live and neutral pins are too narrow, the ISOD pin is shorter than permitted, and the plug fails insulation standards. Additionally, the product lacks essential instructions and safety information for consumers.
The power supply adapter does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994. As a result, LEDSone UK Limited (Electricalsone) has withdrawn the adapter from the market.
Consumers who have purchased this AC-DC 12V 5A adapter, which is sold in a black and green box, should stop using it immediately and contact the retailer for a refund or replacement.

Moon-shaped Baby Sleep Pillow
A dangerous baby sleep pillow has been pulled from sale on the online marketplace Wish after safety officials found it poses a serious suffocation hazard. The recall comes in response to concerns that placing pillows or soft toys in an infant’s sleep area can increase the risk of overheating and airway obstruction-factors linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
According to the NHS, SIDs, previously known as ‘cot death’, “is the sudden and unexplained death of an apparently healthy baby aged up to 12 months old”.
Authorities warn that the pillow fails to comply with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. Parents and carers are strongly urged not to use this product and to keep it out of babies’ reach.
According to the OPSS: “Owners are advised to stop using the product immediately and keep it out of reach of children. Contact the seller for a refund.”

Asda
Asda has expanded its product recall after finding that a number of ladies’ handbags pose a serious chemical risk to consumers. The supermarket giant is urging customers to stop using the affected bags immediately and return them for a full refund.
The recall, initially announced in September and now widened to include more products, affects several handbag models found to contain elevated levels of Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)-a chemical that can be harmful to children and may cause reproductive health issues. According to the OPSS, the bags do not meet the requirements set out in the REACH Regulations 2008.
Customers are advised to check the full list of recalled handbags and return any affected items to their nearest Asda store, where no receipt is required for a refund. Further information is available on the Asda recall page or by calling 0330 053 0111.

Asda said: “At the time of shipment, this product successfully passed all required tests. However, subsequent testing has identified that it may contain phthalates at levels exceeding the permitted regulatory limit.
“Certain phthalates, including Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), are subject to regulatory restrictions because prolonged exposure above specified limits may pose potential health risks and possibly cause damage to the reproductive system.
“While no safety incidents have been reported, we are taking this action to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and to maintain our commitment to consumer safety.”
Anyone with the bags must take them back to an Asda store for a full refund. A receipt is not needed. Asda added: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
Piper K Bag Charms – Seal Lifeguard and Duck in Dungarees sold by TK Maxx
TK Maxx has issued a recall for certain bag charms after safety tests revealed a choking hazard for young children. The recall affects products with a metal spring clip that can detach too easily, creating a small part that poses a significant risk if swallowed.
Officials warn that the O-ring, once detached, is small enough to fit inside a child’s mouth and could block the airway, posing a potentially life-threatening situation.
The recall was prompted after the product failed to meet the minimum strength requirements, and safety regulators confirmed it does not comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
Customers are advised to stop using the product immediately and return it to TK Maxx for a refund or replacement.
TK Maxx said: “We are recalling these products because the required safety testing documentation is not available. This means we cannot confirm that the products meet the relevant safety requirements. Small parts of the key chain may come loose during use and could pose a choking hazard to young children.
“If you have purchased this product, please stop using it immediately and return to any TK Maxx or Homesense store. You can get a full refund or replacement.”

Decathlon Electric Assistance for Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) and Battery
Decathlon has issued an urgent recall for its Electric Assistance for Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) and battery after safety regulators identified a serious fire and burn hazard. According to the company, water can seep into the battery, potentially causing it to overheat and triggering a dangerous thermal runaway.
The recalled products fail to meet the standards required by the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. Decathlon is urging customers to stop using the affected SUP equipment immediately and return it to any Decathlon store for a full refund.
Consumers who cannot return the product in person are advised to dispose of it safely at their local household waste disposal site. After disposing of the product, consumers should fill out the Certificate of Disposal provided by Decathlon and email it to the company to claim their refund. Customers should consult with their local centre beforehand to ensure the battery is accepted for disposal.
Decathlon said on their website: “Stop using Electric Assistance Kayak SUP and its battery and return it to your nearest DECATHLON store. If you notice any abnormality (overheating, swelling), isolate the product (outdoors or submerged in water) and contact customer service. The product returned will be refunded at its purchase value.”

Ancient Wisdom Bath Donut
A recall has been issued for Ancient Wisdom Bath Donut products after it was determined that they pose a significant choking hazard to children and other vulnerable users. The bath products, which closely resemble food items in form, colour, and size, can easily be mistaken for sweets by young children. In addition, small parts of the product may detach, creating a choking hazard if placed in the mouth.
The local authority has ordered the immediate withdrawal of these items from the market, and wholesaler AW Aromatics Limited (“Ancient Wisdom”) is conducting the recall. The products do not comply with Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 (the ‘Cosmetics Regulation’) or the Food Imitations (Safety) Regulations 1989.
Consumers are urged to stop using the bath donuts and keep them away from children. Anyone who has purchased these products should contact the retailer or wholesaler to arrange for a replacement or refund.
