Drishyam 3 is soon going to release theatrically, Abhishek Pathak, its director, opened up about some of the more eventful happenings during the crucial stages of filming. Dhurandhar’s Akshaye Khanna made a last minute exit from the film due to which the entire production went haywire. This was back when the announcement for the third instalment of Hindi Drishyam was made public. During this stage, Akshaye Khanna made a dramatic exit just seven days before the shooting was to commence.
The reasons behind his decision remained unclear, with various reports suggesting different circumstances. Some exclaimed there to be creative differences, while some suggested disagreements with the remuneration requests. Regardless of it, the production had to make new arrangements without the shoot being affected, and Pathak shared his emotions about the same recently.
During an interview with Hindustan Times, Abhishek Pathak spoke about his decision to stick with the original shoot schedule. When asked whether the sudden setback had an effect on him, he said, “I won’t say panic, but we were not happy with the whole idea. I thought, ‘Ye kya tareeka hua?’ (What is this manner?)”
Abhishek also discussed the process of having a fan-favourite cast replaced. For anyone to take control of the helm from Akshaye Khanna would have been pressuring, but Jaideep Ahlawat came on board. He continued, “He was kind of replacing a character that had been liked by the audience. I called him, and he asked me, “Casting change or character change?” I told him I was changing the character. Then, he read it and found it fun. All that happened within 5-6 days.”
Apart from that, the other challenge was boosting the team’s morale. He added, “The tough part was the call to continue, to just tell the team, “Hold on, don’t cancel anything. We will do it.” Bol toh diya par ab karna bhi padega. Likhna bhi tha. (I had said it, but now I had to follow through. I also had to rewrite things.)”
Being just days away from beginning the shoot, he had to figure things out. He said, “I asked for 2-3 days to figure out if we could achieve it. We were seven days away from the shoot when we were to film his scene with Ajay sir.”
Drishyam 3 will hit the theatres on October 2, 2026.
