ACB Unearths Huge Illegal Assets Of Former AP Bhavan Special Officer

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials unearthed illegal assets worth crores allegedly belonging to Kaduru Chinnappanna, former Special Liaison Officer of Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi.

Chinnappanna served in the post from October 2019 and his tenure was extended till June 2024. ACB officials alleged that he acquired assets in his name and in the names of family members and others during his tenure.
Simultaneous searches were conducted on Sunday and Monday at six locations, including Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Rajahmundry, Tadepalli, Krishnalanka and Vijayawada.
During the raids, officials found five plots in Tagarapuvalasa in Visakhapatnam, three plots in Marripalem under Parawada mandal in Anakapalle district, an agreement for purchase of a flat at Pebble Beach Towers in Rushikonda and another flat in Visakhapatnam city.
Officials also found investments worth ₹45.15 lakh in Zerodha Broking Ltd and two vehicles among the assets allegedly linked to the accused.

Man gets 2-year jail for dowry harassment

A Chittoor court on Monday sentenced M. Meghanath (42) to two years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 in a dowry harassment case registered at the Women Police Station in 2020.
Police said the complainant, P. Sudha, married Meghanath in 2014 and her family gave Rs 20 lakh, 100 sovereigns of gold and jewellery as dowry. He later allegedly harassed her for an additional Rs 2 lakh and subjected her to physical and mental abuse.
The court found him guilty under Sections 498-A and 506 of the IPC. Other accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

FRS helps police trace missing girl in 25 minutes

The NTR district police traced a missing minor girl from Visakhapatnam district within 25 minutes with the help of Facial Recognition System (FRS) technology installed near the Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada.

Police said the girl was reported missing under Gajuwaka police station limits on May 24 and her details were integrated into the RTGS monitoring system after registration of the case.
On Monday afternoon, personnel at the Command Control Centre detected the girl through cameras linked to the FRS near the temple premises. Acting on the alert, the CCS police team rushed to the spot and safely traced the girl within 25 minutes.
Police later informed the girl’s parents and ensured her safe custody.

Toddler drowns in fish pond

A one-and-a-half-year-old boy accidentally drowned in a fishpond at ST Colony in Duvvuru village of Sangam mandal on Sunday.

The child, identified as Abhilash, was reportedly playing near his house when he slipped into a nearby fishpond. After noticing that he was missing, family members and villagers began searching for him.

The boy’s body was later found floating in the pond close to the house. The incident left the family devastated and cast a pall of gloom over the village.

Man held for property offences

Vizag city police arrested a man involved in six property offences across the city and recovered 230 grams of gold ornaments worth about Rs 30 lakh from him.
Police identified the accused as 31-year-old Rambabu, a native of Cheepurupalli in Vizianagaram district. According to police, some residents used to leave house keys in shoe racks outside their locked homes. Taking advantage of this, Rambabu allegedly entered six houses in the Madhurawada zone by using the keys and escaped with gold ornaments.

Two die by suicide

Two people died by suicide in separate cases on Monday. A 28-year-old photographer, K. Appa Rao, allegedly consumed a harmful chemical at Vengalarayapuram under Balijipeta mandal in Vizianagaram district.
In Vizag city, a 16-year-old girl studying at a private junior residential college died by hanging in her hostel room at Kapuluppada under Bheemili police station limits.

Man electrocuted

A 50-year-old man, Sunkara Nookaraju, died of electrocution while working in a farm field at Kothapalli under Kasimkota mandal in Anakapalle district. Police said he accidentally came into contact with an electrical wire connected to a motor pump set.

Municipal workers dharna

Members of the AP Municipal Workers Union and AITUC staged a protest in Rajamahendravaram on Monday during Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan’s visit in connection with preparations for Godavari Pushkaralu-2027.

The protesters alleged that police did not allow municipal workers to meet the Deputy Chief Minister and submit a representation regarding their demands.

Leading the agitation, AITUC leader T. Madhu alleged that Pawan Kalyan had earlier stated in Kakinada that he had “adopted the Relli caste”, but was now not meeting members of the community when they sought to submit their grievances.

The protesters demanded an increase in sanitary staff ahead of Godavari Pushkaralu and sought payment of salaries through APSOS.

They also demanded that monthly salaries of sanitary workers be increased to ₹21,000.
