Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre (AQCC) to host an IBM QIC, IT Secretary Bhaskar Katamneni said. IBM QIC can participate in the IBM Quantum Network (IQN), which includes academic institutions, industry clients, startups, and other partners advancing quantum computing.
As part of the network, Quantum Innovation Centers (QIC) serve as hubs for research and capacity building. Boeing, Wells Fargo, and Cleveland Clinic are among several IQN partners.
Katamneni said the AQCC will host IBM QIC within its institutional framework in accordance with the terms and conditions agreed between the parties.
“AQCC is permitted to host an IBM Quantum Innovation Centre within its institutional framework. IBM QIC hosted within AQCC may participate in the IBM Quantum Network and associated educational, research, innovation and ecosystem programmes of IBM Quantum,” a Government Order (GO) issued on Sunday stated.
According to the GO, IBM Quantum has proposed hosting an IBM QIC within AQCC and including AQCC in IQN to facilitate collaboration in quantum education, research, innovation, ecosystem development, workforce skilling and global engagement initiatives. AQCC was set up in the southern state under the Companies Act, 2013 to promote quantum computing research, innovation, skilling, industry collaboration, and ecosystem development in Andhra Pradesh. However, Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) shall continue to remain the overarching quantum ecosystem initiative of the AP Government.
The state government is implementing the AQV initiative as a comprehensive quantum ecosystem comprising academia, research institutions, industry, startups, government agencies and strategic technology partners for the advancement of quantum technologies.
Further, Katamneni noted that this arrangement does not involve any financial liability, commitment or recurring expenditure on the exchequer in the present or in the future, unless specific approval of the government is obtained separately.
