Kakinada: The AP High Court has taken up a complaint that the Kakinada Municipal Corporation is unable to provide correct information regarding certain sites, corporation properties and other matters.
The court directed the ACB to look into a petition from the Jayendra Nagar Welfare Colony residents regarding a housing site. Similarly, another incident took place in the corporation in providing different information in the same issue.
RTI activist Gopal R Surabathula sought information under relevant Act, and obtained details of the ownership and classification of the land belonging to SPCA (society for prevention of cruelty to animals) in Kakinada such as the survey numbers, extent of land and nature of the land.
The corporation provided information for survey number 140/2 to an extent of 2.71 acres of government land.
Gopal again sought documents of the SPCA lands and other details. The corporation informed him that as per the Fair Adangal copy of Ramanaiahpeta, the survey number of SPCA land is 140/1/2 R D (Rythu Vari dairy-farmer’s dry land) of 2.71 cents, the SPCA Gosamrakshana.
“This information meant that the SPCA land does not belong to the government and it is a private land,” stated Gopal.
He told Deccan Chronicle that the corporation has failed in providing correct information to the people and drives the people into confusion. When he sought information on various infrastructural works at SPCA, notings, correspondences, recommendations, inspection reports, proceedings and communications of proposals and also plans, layouts, estimates, technical approvals, engineering drawings, designs, specifications and records pertaining to the works providing various infrastructural works at SPCA, the corporation bluntly told him that no information or records are available in the office.
In the Jayendranagar Colony issue, when private individuals encroached the 1720 square yards of site, the colony residents lodged a complaint with the corporation in 2015. The then municipal commissioner Aleem Basha stated that the site belongs to the corporation only and it doesn’t belong to private individuals and that it was recorded in AP high court.
“But, in 2026, the same KMC stated that the corporation had a site and the private individual should find out their site. There is a different opinion on the same land in 2015 and 2026,” it was pointed out.
The high court found this strange and directed the ACB to probe the matter.
The Jayendra Colony residents expressed their anger over the KMC’s different stands on the corporation lands and other matters.
