Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government will fast-track the process of revising minimum wages for workers in the organised and unorganised sectors under the Code on Wages, 2019, labour minister Vasanamsetti Subhash said on Thursday.
Addressing a preparatory meeting of the Andhra Pradesh State Minimum Wages Advisory Board, the minister said the coalition government was committed to safeguarding workers’ welfare by ensuring fair and just wages. He said the revision was aimed at improving workers’ living standards while promoting equitable growth across industries.
Subhash said the 22-member advisory board, headed by Pellakuru Srinivasulu Reddy, comprises representatives of employers, labour organisations and independent members. The board will examine representations from various sectors and submit its recommendations to the government for revising minimum wages.
The minister said the state would adopt a scientific and transparent approach to wage fixation, taking into account the National Floor Wage notified by the Centre. He said occupations would be classified based on skill levels, nature of work and employment conditions, with special emphasis on increasing employment opportunities for women.
He added that the government had responded positively to several requests made by board members. Identity cards for members have been prepared, while proposals relating to honorarium and other allowances have been forwarded to the government. Requests for TTD VIP break darshan and protocol facilities are also under consideration.
