APSDMA warns of Rain, Lightning and Heatwave Conditions Across AP

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has forecast a mix of rain, lightning and heatwave conditions across the state over the next three days.

APSDMA managing director Prakhar Jain said a trough extending from the central Bay of Bengal across Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is influencing weather conditions in the state.

Light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning is expected in Markapuram and Rayalaseema districts on Thursday. Isolated showers are also likely in Alluri Sitarama Raju, Polavaram, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam and Nellore districts. Gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are also expected.

By 5 pm on Wednesday, Garikipalem in Srikakulam district recorded 72.5 mm of rainfall, followed by 64.5 mm at Laveru. Pachipenta in Manyam district received 48 mm, while Ravikamatham and S. Rayavaram in Anakapalli district recorded 29 mm and 28.5 mm respectively. Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam district received 28 mm of rainfall.

At the same time, APSDMA warned of severe heatwave conditions in 13 mandals. These include Bondapalli, Gajapathinagaram, Gantyada and Mentada in Vizianagaram district; Makkuva, Pachipenta, Parvathipuram and Salur in Parvathipuram-Manyam district; Kakinada Urban, Kakinada Rural and Pithapuram in Kakinada district; and Ananthagiri in Alluri Sitharama Raju district.

Heatwave conditions are also likely in 42 other mandals across the state.

Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 41°C and 42°C in parts of Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram-Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Kakinada, Konaseema and East Godavari districts. Temperatures between 40°C and 41°C are likely in Polavaram and West Godavari districts.

On Wednesday, the highest temperature of 44.3°C was recorded at Makavarapalem in Anakapalli district and Kovvur in East Godavari district. Allipalli in Eluru district recorded 44.2°C, while Tanuku in West Godavari district registered 43.9°C.

Several other locations, including Inkollu, Kunavaram, Pithapuram, Gajuwaka, Rajam and Sivala, recorded temperatures above 43°C, reflecting the intensity of the ongoing heatwave across the state.
