Backrooms has collected USD 350 million worldwide

Backrooms

Made on a budget of USD 10 million, Backrooms got a good start at the box office with USD 38.4 million when it was released. This led to a domestic collection of USD 81.5 million and USD 118 million worldwide. Despite the arrival of other big films in the theatre, Backrooms continued pulling audiences due to its content.

A new update has now revealed that the movie’s global collections have touched the mark of USD 350 million by July 5, 2026 (ET). The film has run for more than 30 days in theatres, and the figures are reported to be bigger and better than Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Backrooms is slowly progressing to create records in other countries. It is close to USD 15 million in China, and a similar situation has been reported in France. Although the collections have witnessed a little drop, Backrooms is still the top-grossing film from A24 in multiple countries. The film has additionally created records in countries like Russia, Poland, and Thailand.

The collections have increased in places like Germany and Thailand. While the weekend collections were USD 1.1 million in Germany, it was almost USD 2.5 million in Thailand. The collections are reported to be USD 4 million in the Benelux territory. Apart from that, the film is also doing well in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Is a sequel to Backrooms confirmed?

Backrooms

Following the success of Backrooms, reports of a possible sequel have been emerging everywhere. Notably, director, Kane Parsons, has previously expressed his wish to expand the film into a feature anthology during a tour.

A few days after the release of the film, insiders claimed that Kane is willing to collaborate with someone to write a sequel. Furthermore, a sequel is possible in any manner since Kane’s contract with A24 has not ended yet. On the other hand, Kane had something else to say about the reports when he appeared for an interview on the podcast, The Town.

Kane Parsons responded to the reports of him searching for a screenwriter and said that he is not aware of anything about it. He even described the rumour as a “hallucination.” In the same interview, Kane opened up on the kind of projects that he would like to be involved with in the future. Addressing his interest in big franchises like Star Wars, Kane said:

“I’m not too interested in IP work. I pretty much want to focus on original projects. I do this because it’s my way of processing life, as is art. And I typically find needing to step into someone else’s view of life tends to just kind of damage the initial point for me.”

Backrooms marked the first feature film of Kane Parsons as a director. It focused on a furniture store owner and his therapist, who find a dimension of several liminal spaces in the basement.
