As is known, Nandamuri Balakrishna was injured in July this year while shooting a difficult action sequence for Dada, his 111th film, at Kakinada Port in Andhra Pradesh. Reports said he slipped, prompting the crew to briefly halt production. Doctors found a torn left quadriceps tendon and damage to the surrounding tissue. He underwent successful surgery on July 23, which the hospital said was completed without complications. The roughly three-hour procedure reattached the torn tendon to the kneecap and repaired the supporting tissues around the knee.

Willpower is everything for Balakrishna

His recovery following the knee surgery has been swift, with the actor now resuming filming. Addressing his vitality in his mid-60s, the Bhagavanth Kesari actor has previously stated that mental focus outweighs physical metrics alone. He remarked that “our mind holds far more strength than we realise”, believing that if one trains the mind alongside the body, one can achieve any physical requirement for a role.

Action shifts to Mysore

Balakrishna is currently in Mysore for Dada, helmed by his Veera Simha Reddy director Gopichand Malineni. The current production schedule is focused on crucial dialogue sequences featuring the Akhanda actor. Positioned as a high-budget commercial action drama, the project aims to present Balakrishna in a commanding role, as suggested by the promotional tagline, ‘The King of Chaos’. The moniker underscores the film’s expansive narrative scale and stylised characterisation.

With production moving at a steady pace despite the extended break caused by Balakrishna’s injury, the team intends to complete key sequences during this schedule. Dada is slated for a theatrical release on December 24.

Balakrishna, known for his relentless screen energy, high stamina and physical discipline, is expected to be seen in one of his most violent roles in Dada. The Christmas release has plenty going for it, including Manchu Manoj’s villainous turn and the presence of an ensemble cast. Expect punchlines galore!
