Kriti Sanon has been in the news lately for a bit due to a controversy that revolved around her recent Raksha Bandhan advertisement. The controversy highlighted the attire she wore, deeming it disrespectful to the festival. In light of it, she spoke about how shocked she was to see the outburst of reactions targeting her outfit.
Kriti Sanon was part of an appearance with Kareena Kapoor Khan where they openly discussed the events that had transpired. Kriti began by saying, “My choli became a 6-people panel discussion.” She further told Kareena, “I couldn’t believe… when my choli had become like a 6-people panel discussion on prime-time news.” To this, Kareena responded, “I know.”
What was supposedly meant to be a wholesome ad featuring Kriti Sanon tying a Rakhi on her brother’s wrist for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan quickly became the talking point for targeting her Indo-Western-styled outfit.
Kriti later took to her social media to express her feelings about the same. She said, “When will we stop telling women what to wear? Ethnic fashion has evolved over the years, yet a woman’s respect for her culture is still measured by her clothes. Culture and traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline!”
She further spoke on what the true intent behind the festival was, saying, “The essence of festivals is not in the clothes you wear. It is in the emotions and meaning you hold for the traditions. Raksha Bandhan is a bond of protection. My sister and I tie Rakhi to each other. We know we can protect each other no less than a brother would have. We pray for each other’s health, happiness & long life. And for us, this prayer and promise extends to our dogs too! After all, they are family!”
In support of her, even the founder of the jewellery brand shared her say. “I have been following the conversations around our Raksha Bandhan campaign with Kriti and particularly the perception that we did not stand by the campaign or the message behind it. I want to be clear. Our belief in the intent behind the campaign remains unchanged,”
Kriti Sanon was last seen alongside Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in Cocktail 2.
