
BALLARI: The Kurugodu police on Tuesday seized a mini lorry allegedly transporting PDS rice illegally and have booked three persons in this connection near Nelludi Kottal village in the district.
Police on Wednesday said the accused — Shekshavali of Adoni in Andhra Pradesh, Vinod and Haladal Veerabhadra, both residents of Manvi in Raichur district — were caught while allegedly transporting ration rice unauthorisedly near a major canal in the village.
Acting on a tip-off, PSI Supreeth V and his team, along with Food Inspector B Virupaksha Gowda, conducted a joint raid and intercepted the vehicle. During the operation, officials seized 17.460 tonnes of ration rice worth Rs 87,300 and the Eicher mini lorry used for the transport.
All three accused have been booked. A case has been registered at Kurugodu police station under relevant sections of the Essential Commodities Act, and further investigation is underway, police said.
