Lee Gate Farm posted a video just weeks before confirming the death of Frank Carr, who was the fourth generation in his family to farm the location in Malhamdale, North Yorkshire
BBC Countryfile farmer posted a video just weeks before his tragic death aged 35. Frank Carr, who was a determined and passionate ambassador for farming, previously appeared on the BBC One show alongside its host Adam Henson.
But his death stunned fans of the show, with his episode airing in August. And a final video on Instagram showed his love of farming even when things didn’t go to plan.
Lee Gate Farm, where he was the fourth generation in his family to farm the location in Malhamdale, North Yorkshire shared a clip of hundreds of ewes being let out to roam free. The video was captioned: “He was the fourth generation in his family to farm Lee Gate Farm in Malhamdale, North Yorkshire and was described as the “very best of the next generation” of farmers.
The clip showed the ewes being expertly rounded up with the help of the farm’s border collies. The farm, which has been in Lee’s family went on to post a devastating upload to confirm his passing.
Showcasing a beautiful sunset over the fields, the post read: “After every sunset, there comes a new day. 24•07•91 – 25•09•26”
Followers quickly paid tribute in the comment section. One wrote: ““When things look dark, turn your face towards the sun and the shadows will fall behind…” Your words will always be in my thoughts. Sleep peacefully Frank.”
Another said: “Franks loss will be felt in Malhamdale, forever – sending love to everyone at Lee Gate and all Franks family and friends xxx.”
And a third wrote: “Thank you for always being so supportive of my journey into farming. Always there with a pick-me-up on an otherwise grey day and making that load a little lighter for others. Meant the world. Sleep well Frank.”
A statement on social media had read: “We are deeply saddened by the death of North Yorkshire hill farmer Frank Carr, aged 35. Frank was a familiar face to Farmers Guardian readers and someone we were fortunate to work with many times over the years.
“From sharing the realities of farming more than 2,000 acres in the Yorkshire Dales to supporting #Farm24 and taking part in our Next Generation Hill Farmers series, Frank was passionate about his family, his livestock and the future of hill farming.”
Farmers Guardian editor Katie Jones said: “Frank will be remembered not only as a talented young farmer but as someone who represented the very best of the next generation – committed to his family, his livestock, his land and the future of British farming.”
