It has been claimed that BBC bosses ‘covered up’ a shock attack after a male presenter allegedly broke the wrist of his female colleague.

BBC bosses have been accused of covering up allegations that a “high-profile” male presenter broke a female colleague’s wrist during an altercation, it has been claimed.

According to reports in the Mail on Sunday, the unnamed woman went to hospital over her injuries, with the alleged incident thought to take place in 2014. It is not currently clear what led to the clash.

However, while higher ups were reportedly made aware of what happened, it is claimed they failed to escalate the situation adequately or take disciplinary action against him.

A source claimed that he went on to work for the broadcaster for “several years” in the wake of the incident, explaining: “He had taken her by the wrists, crossed them over one another and then threw her down to the floor. A doctor’s report was filed but nobody did anything about it. It was a cover-up from the BBC.

“The BBC could see where it was all going but they hoped he would leave of his own accord.

“It was hardly decisive action. He ended up staying for years. The BBC was his shield because it gave him credibility,” they added to the Mail on Sunday.

While the presenter’s identity has not been made public, bosses are said to have met with him several times over his alleged behaviour. Instead of giving him the axe, they reportedly hoped that he would decide to leave himself after being given “undesirable shifts”.

According to the publication, during his employment, the unnamed host was also arrested for an unconnected incident, but was eventually released without charge.

This is the second time the BBC has come under fire in recent weeks, following Scott Mills being axed from his role in March.

The Radio 2 host left his show shortly before details came to light of a 2016 police investigation, over allegations of serious sexual offences involving a teenage boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000. A file was sent to the CPS but there was not enough evidence for a charge.

His contract was terminated after bosses learned the full extent of the investigation. Sara Cox was recently announced as his replacement.

In a statement shared shortly after his exit, Mills said: “The recent announcement that I am no longer contracted to the BBC has led to the publication of rumour and speculation. In response to this the Metropolitan Police has made a statement, which I confirm relates to me.

“An allegation was made against me in 2016 of a historic sexual offence, which was the subject of a police investigation in which I fully co-operated and responded to in 2018.

“Since the investigation related to an allegation that dates back nearly 30 years and the police investigation was closed seven years ago, I hope that the public and the media will understand and respect my wish not to make any further public comment on this matter.”
