Beverley Callard emotionally admitted she is “in terrible pain” amid her breast cancer battle.
The actress, 69, announced earlier this year she had been diagnosed with the disease around the time she relocated to Ireland with her husband Jon McEwan so she could join the cast of RTE’s soap Fair City.
The soap icon, who is best known for having starred as Rovers landlady Liz McDonald on Coronation Street on and off for 30 years, initially underwent an operation and then completed radiotherapy. Then doctors urged her to undergo further scans on her stomach several weeks ago.
But the star said on Tuesday night that she has heard “nothing at all” in terms of results and her eating has been affected thanks to a suspicious “burning feeling” she is suffering from.

Speaking in a new video posted to Instagram, she said: “Well, I’m not great. I am still waiting results from the gastro department. They did the scopes and they said I’d got chronic inflammation in my stomach, so they took several biopsies and I’ve heard nothing. This is weeks ago. I’ve been trying to ring them today because I’m in terrible pain, I just don’t know what else to do.
“So, we’ll just see what happens, but it’s affecting my eating. It it’s like a burning feeling and it’s ever since I finished the radiotherapy, so I’m not sure what it is. I just truly don’t know. My GP has tried to get in touch with them, so has my oncologist, who is at the same hospital, but nothing at all.
“And my oncologist did give me some medication for it, which did ease it slightly, but it was two tablets a day and after four weeks, it says you have to cut down to one tablet a day, and now that’s not doing anything at all.
“So, we’ll see. Even if I have a cup of tea, it’s sort of this burning feeling. So, I’m bloody fed up. Has anyone else had this? I just wondered. And also, thank you so much for your wonderful messages and everything, but let me know what you think.”
In the caption of the post, Bev added: “Not sure how much longer I can keep waiting. Trying to get hold of someone from the gastro team, let alone get any answers, is proving almost impossible! Meanwhile, the medication isn’t working, there’s no alternative in sight, and I’m just left feeling constantly nauseous.”
Fans were quick to respond to the I’m A Celebrity… star and shared her frustration at the lack of results, as one said: “I cannot understand why it’s taking so long for you to get results! That’s ridiculous and cruel. Thinking of you and pray this is resolved soon.”
Another said: “I can’t believe you haven’t heard a thing it’s ridiculous and your in pain as well , sending love,” and a third wrote: “So sorry to hear how poorly you are feeling, hope you soon get answers.”
